Here at spinalsolutions we truly believe that a 'treatment' must wholly engage a model of health. That's exercise, diet, mind-fullness in daily life, and basically learning to take care of yourself.
The Atkins diet was the beginning of a revolution in nutrition and diet , emphasising changing our 'Western' carbohydrate rich diets to one that is rich in protein (in the Atkins Diet almost exclusively!!).
There were some shortfalls in this diet in that it was too rich in protein and quite high in saturated fat, this could risk damage to heart and kidneys.  The Low GI Diet uses this idea but with the introduction of low fat foods and carbohydrates which release their sugars into the body at a slow rate. This means that slumps of energy throughout the day are avoided as there is a controlled rather than sudden release of insulin (released after sugary foods and causes an immediate drop in blood sugars rather than a rise!).  This has been shown through research to help with sensible weight loss, and low energy levels. By utilising low fat foods also it can be useful for controlling cholesterol levels.

All patients are encouraged to follow this diet and information is given during consultation, helpful books are always available at fantastically discounted prices to support our advice.
